Description

Being a firefighter/emergency medical technician in the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service is one of the most challenging and satisfying careers. You will become a member of a team of well trained and organized personnel, whose main responsibility is the protection of life and property island-wide -inclusive of the L.F. Wade International Airport. Prospective candidates should have a desire to undertake development and promotional opportunities within and outside of the Fire Service. REQUIREMENTS Education: Must be the holder of a Bermuda School Certificate (BSC) or General Education Diploma (GED) or equivalent. In addition candidates are required to pass the Service's entrance exams (including math test). Must possess a valid car drivers license (manual transmission). Physical: Must be at least 18 years of age, and not be less than 5ft 5in in height (without shoes). Minimum eye sight of 20/30 without correctors, and correct colour vision is required. Must be in good physical condition and be able to pass the Service's physical fitness and ability tests along with the Fire Service medical exam. On appointment candidates shall be placed on a 24-month probationary period. During the first six months of employment, candidates shall be required to undergo basic training on all aspects of structural or aircraft rescue firefighting and qualify as an Emergency Medical Technician (Intermediate). Must be able to travel overseas for training if necessary. WHAT WE OFFER Hours of Duty: Work on a rotation schedule including weekdays, weekends and public holidays. However firefighters are subject to immediate recall while off duty at the sole discretion of the Chief Fire Officer. Annual Leave: 21 days or as per Fire Service Policy for job classification. Uniforms: Protective clothing, work and dress uniforms are provided. Insurance: GEHI, dental and personal accident insurance is provided. Pension: Firefighters contribute to Government Superannuation Scheme. Pay Scale: $55,484 - $65,407 (Current salary under review).
